Made specifically for the opening exhibition of Catharine Clark's new gallery space, Groundbreaking is constructed with standard issue shovels and is a nod to Marcel Duchamp's In Advance of the Broken Arm circa 1915. It is also a wry comment on the veritable challenges that come with breaking ground in the hard terrain of the art marketplace.
